In October, I had the pleasure of joining Laura Jorstad at the Abila Business Partner conference in Austin, TX. When we left Monday morning, October 9th, it was snowing and when we arrived in Austin, it was 92 degrees with humidity.
On the first day of the conference, JP Guilbault, the CEO of Community Brands, opened our time together with an overview of Community Brands. I am not sure how many people know this, but Abila joined forces with YourMembership and Aptify to form Community Brands in April 2017. Community Brands focuses on reaching the unmet needs of associations, nonprofits, government entities, and other member-centric organizations by providing seamless technology solutions. This nonprofit solution portfolio has over 13,000 customers who hold over 100,000 events annually.
Guilbault also offered some meaningful questions for organization members to ask, such as why are you doing what you are doing? Why do you care? Why does it matter? Then, he gave us some statistics:
- Two billion people live on less than $2 per day
- 50 percent of deaths are preventable
- 60-100 million young people are without access to education
- Six million jobs are unfilled, mostly due to lack of skill
These are very powerful statistics and certainly made me think about why I am doing what I am doing. My answer was easy. I do what I do because I deeply care about making nonprofits succeed, the work is important and it changes lives.
